Tattersall is a regularly spaced check or plaid pattern, smaller than windowpane. It’s usually composed of one or two darker colors on a white or lighter background. Thin, even, vertical stripes, straight or warped, are repeated horizontally in the weft, thereby forming squares. Tattersall check is smaller than windowpane and was named for a Tattersalls Horse Market where horse blankets with this design were used. Country casual.
